The Idea of Spring

Even a hint of spring awakens something in us

What fresh new things will arise?

Every morning I sip coffee and watch

Night light turn to day over dead winter branches

Birds flit about in the barely there trees outside my window

Telling me that something palpable is coming

Oh to feel the sun on my face and breathe warm air

I hope with all my heart that peace will take root

And joy will claim its well deserved space

Will it not abound from the fruit of last years labor?

For we have toiled much.

Laying the groundwork, pushing past weakness, finding strength, learning new things, understanding ourselves and others…we’ve planted so many seeds.

Pretty soon leaves and flower beds will bloom

from our sweat and tears.

Hope and dreams will spill over in colors

too plentiful for our hearts to measure.

The revelation is just enough for us to…

Smile in awe

Sigh in gratitude

Rest in knowing

Nothing is perfect, but everything is beautiful.

Part of our spirit remains underground

waiting to break through.

Hope awakens, yet stays patient.

Lovingly, let us anticipate wonder.
